INNER CITY LANDSCAPES Access to a safe and secure shelter is a major determinant of health and one of the most basic of human needs. Without a permanent address, a safe place to sleep, eat and bathe, the health consequences, both physical and mental, are dire. According to the Canadian Policy Research Network (CPRN) report on frontline health, more than 100,000 Canadians are now living in absolute poverty and many of them can be found living on the streets of our inner cities. These images represent the landscape of their lives.

RURAL AND REMOTE LANDSCAPES Almost a third (30%) of the Canadian population lives in rural and remote parts of the country but only 18% of doctors and nurses choose to live there and this directly affects the health of the population. Infant mortality rates increase the farther north you travel. In Nunavut, it is three times the national average. Finding ways to encourage health professionals to build long-term careers in our remote landscapes is one of the major challenges of frontline health.
